On this installment of 13 O’Clock, Tom and Jenny delve into the infamous case of the West Memphis Three. In early May of 1993, a trio of eight-year-old boys — Steve Branch, Michael Moore, and Christopher Byers — were brutally murdered in West Memphis, Arkansas, and almost from the moment the bodies were discovered, townsfolk and law enforcement were pretty sure who was responsible: three teenage boys who were supposedly into Satanic and occult practices. The three teens — Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley — were convicted of the crimes, but doubt about their guilt lingered, as there was little to no physical evidence tying them to the murders and ample evidence that Satanic Panic and alleged police misconduct were factors in the convictions. Settle in for a tale of child murder, occult hysteria, and miscarriage of justice on an infuriating episode 199.
