13 O’Clock Episode 392: Famous Con Man Frank Abagnale Jr.

In 2002, Steven Spielberg released a film called Catch Me If You Can, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as a con man being pursued by Tom Hanks’s dogged FBI agent. The movie was loosely based on a 1980 autobiography of the same name by convicted fraudster Frank Abagnale Jr., who claimed all sorts of outrageous criminal exploits. For example, beginning in the 1960s, Abagnale supposedly impersonated an airline pilot, a doctor, and a lawyer, all the while passing bad checks reportedly totaling over two million dollars. After inevitably getting caught, Abagnale decided to go straight and use his personal experience to help authorities combat fraud. In later years, however, it’s come to light that many of the claims Abagnale made in his autobiography may be wildly exaggerated or outright fabrications, so is it possible the con man is still conning the public after supposedly changing his ways? Join Tom and Jenny on this roller coaster ride of graft and chicanery on a duplicitous episode 392.

13 O’Clock Episode 391: Valentine’s Day Special – The Doomed Romance of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love

At the dawn of the 1990s, with the explosion of punk and grunge into the mainstream, Nirvana rode the wave to superstardom, becoming the signature sound of disaffected Gen-X’ers. Nirvana’s troubled frontman, Kurt Cobain, had long had problems with drugs and depression, and the sudden thrust into the world’s spotlight didn’t seem to help matters. When he married fellow musician Courtney Love of Hole after only four months of dating, the media wondered if this was going to end in tragedy, if Kurt and Courtney were the Sid and Nancy of the nineties. Sadly, the relationship did end horribly, with Kurt’s suicide in 1994, and ensuing conspiracy theories about Courtney’s possible involvement in his death. Join Tom and Jenny as we go back in time to the heady early 90s, the mainstreaming of punk, and the tragic love story at the center of it all on a grim and grungy Valentine’s Day special.

13 O’Clock Episode 390: Adolfo Constanzo and the Narco-Satanists

Serial killer and cult leader Adolfo Constanzo, between 1986 and 1989, led the drug-trafficking and occult sacrifice gang that came to be known as either the Matamoros Cult or the Narco-Satanists. Along with his companion and self-professed witch Sara Aldrete, the cult was responsible for the torture and murder of at least fifteen people, and possibly dozens more. Their most infamous crime was the horrifying torture and murder of American pre-med student Mark Kilroy, who was abducted while in Mexico for spring break. Join Tom and Jenny on this gruesome descent into black magic and butchery on a stomach-churning episode 390.
