13 O’Clock Episode 374: The Weird World of Michael Jackson (Abuse Allegations and Death Controversy)

Michael Jackson was one of the most successful and beloved pop stars the world has ever seen, and his sudden death in 2009 at the age of 50 shocked his millions of fans. But as most people know, long before his controversial death, Jackson’s life was plagued with rumors and scandals, from the relatively harmless—such as the allegations that bleached his skin, or that he tried to buy the bones of the “Elephant Man,” Joseph Merrick—to the horrific—namely, that he systematically groomed and abused several young boys over the course of his career. On this episode of 13 O’Clock, Tom and Jenny dive into the fray, discussing the 1993 and 2005 trials charging Jackson with sexual abuse, as well as the conviction of his doctor Conrad Murray, who was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for administering the drugs that ended Jackson’s life.

Mankind has come up with some pretty amazing technologies, but one depressing aspect of our boundless creativity is that it’s often used for evil. On this episode of 13 O’Clock, Tom and Jenny take a horrifying journey through the Middle Ages, describing some of the worst torture devices ever devised by man, including the rack, the iron maiden, the thumbscrews, the Judas cradle, the scold’s bridle, the pear of anguish (way worse than it sounds), and the breast ripper (self-explanatory). 13 O’Clock Episode 372: Poltergeist Cases with an Older Focus

Anyone familiar with paranormal activity is surely aware that in most purported poltergeist cases, there is usually an emotionally volatile adolescent in the affected home who is suspected to be the focus of the manifestations. This is not always the case, however, and there have been a handful of interesting instances where poltergeist shenanigans broke out in a home where no teenagers were present, or where the teenager was obviously not the source of the problem. On this episode, Tom and Jenny discuss a few cases of poltergeist outbreaks where there was no clear focus, or where the focus appeared to be an adult or someone much older than usual. We’ll be covering the Indianapolis Poltergeist case from 1962, the Miami workplace poltergeist from 1966, Don Decker the Rain Man, the St. Quentin case from 1986, and the Atlanta blood poltergeist from 1987.
