The Zodiac is easily one of the most infamous unsolved serial killer cases in American history. The unidentified perpetrator murdered at least five victims in the San Francisco Bay area in 1968 and 1969, usually targeting young couples. He also sent numerous communications to police, taunting them about their inability to catch him; many of these letters included odd ciphers, a few of which have yet to be decoded. Though many suspects have been put forward over the years, the case was given a shot in the arm in late 2021 by a group of cold case investigators, who claimed they had identified the Zodiac at last as a man named Gary Francis Poste, who died in 2018. Though law enforcement officials discounted their theory, it got oodles of media attention. And even more recently, in 2020, the famed Z-340 cipher was solved at last, though it contained no substantive information. In September of this year, a suspect named William McDuff Andrew was put forward. And just this month (October 2022), a researcher named Jarett Kobek published a book laying out the case for a previously unknown and very compelling suspect: a California man named Paul Doerr. On this chilling episode, Tom and Jenny will revisit the notorious crimes, and include all the latest updates in the ongoing investigation.
