Jimmy Savile was once one of Britain’s most beloved celebrities; starting out as a dance-hall DJ, his larger-than-life personality and eccentric manner ensured that he soon rocketed to the forefront of the public consciousness, leading to long-term stints on Radio 1, Top of the Pops, and Jim’ll Fix It. He was also very active in charity work, raising copious sums for children’s hospitals and other causes, and he hobnobbed with the likes of Prince Charles, Margaret Thatcher, and even the bloody Pope. But even as far back as the 1950s, rumors and accusations circulated that Jimmy Savile had a much darker side, one that preyed upon vulnerable children and young people. Though he was never arrested during his lifetime, after his death in 2011, the floodgates opened, and hundreds of accusers came forward, some of whom had reported his abuse decades before, only to be ignored. Join Jenny and Tom on this appalling journey through the half-century rampage of this irredeemable sexual predator who, because of his wealth, fame, and connections, was able to operate almost out in the open without ever being called into account for his actions.
