Rosaleen Norton, a New Zealand-born occultist and artist born in 1917, led a controversial life marked by rebellion and mysticism. Embracing paganism, witchcraft, and esotericism, Norton gained notoriety for her unconventional practices and beliefs, becoming known in the tabloids as The Witch of Kings Cross, named after the neighborhood in Sydney, Australia where she lived. Throughout her life, she delved into ceremonial magic, drawing inspiration from Aleister Crowley and the works of the occult. Despite facing societal condemnation and legal battles for her art and lifestyle, Norton remained steadfast in her exploration of the occult realms. Her provocative artwork often depicted mystical and erotic themes, challenging societal norms and sparking both fascination and outrage. Despite her controversial reputation, Norton’s legacy endures as a pioneering figure in Australia’s occult and artistic communities, leaving behind a body of work that continues to captivate and intrigue. 13 O’Clock Episode 398: Randall Woodfield, The I-5 Killer

Between October of 1980 and February of 1981, a perpetrator known as the I-5 Bandit or the I-5 Killer terrorized Oregon, Washington, and California, raping and murdering women and girls in a frenzied spree of violence. The culprit was apprehended in March of 1981 and turned out to be a man by the name of Randall Woodfield, a former football player from an upper-middle-class family who was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 1974 (but never played for them professionally). Though Woodfield was ultimately convicted of only one murder, he is suspected to have committed between 25 and 44, and he is currently serving a life sentence plus 165 years. Join Tom and Jenny as we discuss the murderous career of this cold-blooded killer on a horrific episode 398.

13 O’Clock Episode 397: The Folklore of Nightmares

Every single one of us has had bad dreams at one time or another, and the universality of this very human experience means that there are fascinating legends and bits of folklore surrounding the causes of nightmares and sleep paralysis. Probably the best known is that of the mare, a sort of demon or goblin that gives people terrible dreams (but has nothing much to do with a horse), and there’s also the old story of being “hag-ridden,” or having a witch or succubus creature sitting on your chest and making you have horrible visions. On this nightmarish episode, Tom and Jenny will discuss a number of different folkloric tales surrounding nightmares, and also get into the most common themes and imagery in human nightmares and what they might mean.
