13 O’Clock Episode 442: The Roswell Incident

The Roswell Incident refers to an event in July 1947, when something crashed on a ranch near Roswell, New Mexico. The U.S. military initially claimed it was a “flying disc” but quickly retracted the statement, saying it was a weather balloon. This sparked widespread speculation that the government was covering up evidence of an alien spacecraft. Over the years, conspiracy theories grew, fueled by declassified documents and witness accounts. In 1994, the U.S. government admitted the debris was part of Project Mogul, a top-secret program using high-altitude balloons to detect Soviet nuclear tests. Despite this explanation, Roswell remains a focal point for UFO enthusiasts and alien conspiracy theories.

“The Cage,” a small medieval building in the village of St. Osyth, Essex, is famously associated with 16th-century healer and midwife Ursula Kemp and the witch trials. It served as a local prison and held accused witches, including Kemp, before their trials. Over the years, The Cage gained notoriety as one of England’s most haunted buildings, with reports of ghostly apparitions, unexplained sounds, and an oppressive atmosphere. The property has drawn paranormal investigators and thrill-seekers, fueling its reputation as a chilling reminder of the region’s dark history of witch hunts.

We’ll talk about Jeane Dixon, who rose to fame after supposedly foreseeing the assassination of JFK and then went on to advise former First Lady Nancy Reagan. Then we’ll look into Sylvia Browne, who made loads of TV appearances and claimed to have consulted on a number of high-profile missing persons and murder cases. We’ll also discuss Allison DuBois, the inspiration behind the crime show Medium starring Patricia Arquette. And lastly, we’ll shine a light on Miss Cleo, whose 900-number psychic network commercials were all over late-night TV in the late 90s and early 2000s. Gaze into your crystal ball as we try to tap into the energies of the universe (or something) on a woo-woo-infused episode 419.

Rosaleen Norton, a New Zealand-born occultist and artist born in 1917, led a controversial life marked by rebellion and mysticism. Embracing paganism, witchcraft, and esotericism, Norton gained notoriety for her unconventional practices and beliefs, becoming known in the tabloids as The Witch of Kings Cross, named after the neighborhood in Sydney, Australia where she lived. Throughout her life, she delved into ceremonial magic, drawing inspiration from Aleister Crowley and the works of the occult. Despite facing societal condemnation and legal battles for her art and lifestyle, Norton remained steadfast in her exploration of the occult realms. Her provocative artwork often depicted mystical and erotic themes, challenging societal norms and sparking both fascination and outrage. Despite her controversial reputation, Norton’s legacy endures as a pioneering figure in Australia’s occult and artistic communities, leaving behind a body of work that continues to captivate and intrigue. 13 O’Clock Episode 396: Heol Fanog – The Welsh Amityville

The remote farmhouse known as Heol Fanog is nestled among the Brecon Beacons mountain range in Wales. Built in the 1950s in an area rumored to have a history of witchcraft, the house became infamous in the late 1980s when Liz and Bill Rich moved there with Bill’s teenage son. Shortly after settling in, the family claimed, unsettling paranormal activity began to occur, including disembodied footsteps and snoring, ridiculously high electric bills, horrible odors, doors slamming by themselves, and farm animals mysteriously dying. Eventually, Bill began going down a dark path, becoming interested in the occult, and not long afterward, the activity ramped up, graduating to terrifying apparitions and even a possible succubus. The house underwent many exorcisms that seemed to partially alleviate the problem, but the Rich family had had enough and fled the house about seven years after they’d first moved in. Join Tom and Jenny on a ghostly journey through the spooky Welsh countryside on a supernaturally special episode 396.

Tom and Jenny compare and contrast the 2002 made for TV pilot A Haunting in Connecticut to the 2009 fictionalized “Hollywood” version, The Haunting in Connecticut, starring Virginia Madsen and Martin Donovan. Both are retellings of the supposedly true Snedeker haunting from the 1980s.

13 O’Clock Episode 372: Poltergeist Cases with an Older Focus

Anyone familiar with paranormal activity is surely aware that in most purported poltergeist cases, there is usually an emotionally volatile adolescent in the affected home who is suspected to be the focus of the manifestations. This is not always the case, however, and there have been a handful of interesting instances where poltergeist shenanigans broke out in a home where no teenagers were present, or where the teenager was obviously not the source of the problem. On this episode, Tom and Jenny discuss a few cases of poltergeist outbreaks where there was no clear focus, or where the focus appeared to be an adult or someone much older than usual. We’ll be covering the Indianapolis Poltergeist case from 1962, the Miami workplace poltergeist from 1966, Don Decker the Rain Man, the St. Quentin case from 1986, and the Atlanta blood poltergeist from 1987.
