Far out, maaaaaan. On today’s groovy discussion, Tom and Jenny are traveling back to the heady days of the late 60s and early 70s to talk about a lesser known hippie cult known as the Source Family. Led by a larger-than-life guru figure called Father Yod, the cult began in the burgeoning health food scene of Southern California and eventually went into full-on communal living and underage marriages territory. While far less horrific than some other cults of the period, such as Jim Jones’s People’s Temple or the Manson Family, the Source Family is still a fascinating and crazy tale of sex, drugs, terrible jam bands, and hang gliding, so tune in, turn on, and drop out into a LIVE episode 236.
