13 O’Clock Episode 507: Family Killer Alex Murdaugh and the Murdaugh Family Saga

The Murdaugh family built a powerful legal dynasty in South Carolina’s Lowcountry, with three generations serving as solicitors and running a prominent personal injury firm for nearly a century. Alex Murdaugh, the fourth-generation lawyer, lived a double life of opioid addiction and massive financial crimes, embezzling millions from clients and the firm while his son Paul faced charges in a fatal 2019 boat crash. On June 7, 2021, at the family’s Moselle estate, Maggie Murdaugh (52) and Paul (22) were brutally shot to death near the dog kennels with family firearms. Alex, who reported the bodies, was convicted in March 2023 of the double murder after a high-profile trial featuring damning cellphone data, a Snapchat video placing him at the scene minutes before the killings, timeline evidence from GPS and phones, and a financial motive tied to his impending exposure. He received two consecutive life sentences and later pleaded guilty to dozens of financial fraud counts, receiving additional prison time. As of May 2026, his murder conviction appeal remains pending before the South Carolina Supreme Court amid ongoing scrutiny of the family’s once-untouchable legacy.

13 O’Clock Episode 93 – The Family Murders

We’re going back to Australian true crime for episode 93, and boy, this one’s a doozy. Remember when we talked about the Wanda Beach murders and the disappearance of the Beaumont children back on episode 77? We kinda mentioned today’s topic on that show, because there were some suspects in common, but here’s the complete, horrible story of the so-called “Family Murders,” which took place in Adelaide, South Australia in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Seems there was an alleged cabal of wealthy, prominent older men in the city who would cruise around, pick up teenage boys, and do unspeakable things to them before dumping them by the side of the road. This one’s kinda rough, so y’know, have some cute kitten videos on standby for afterward. Also, we’re covering a recent news story whereby a suspect in a Washington State double murder case from 1987 has been identified using the same genealogy technique used to capture the Golden State Killer. It’s true crime from Down Under and Up Over (I guess…?) on a grim and gruesome episode 93.

13 O’Clock Episode 77 – Wanda Beach Murders and the Beaumont Children, Plus Florida Man Strikes Again

It’s another true crime double feature on 13 O’Clock, and we’re featuring two infamous crimes from 1960s Australia. First up, the horrific slayings of Marianne Schmidt and Christine Sharrock on Wanda Beach in 1965, and then the mysterious disappearance and probable murder of the Beaumont children from 1966. Before that, our news segment focuses on a typical “Florida Man” crime, about a man who was into child porn and then got into even bigger trouble trying to hire a hit man. It’s a special kind of stupid, trust me. So put on your deerstalker hats and get ready to investigate some unsolved crimes with Tom and Jenny on a bloody and tragic episode 77.
