13 O’Clock Episode 502: The Wreck of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald

On November 10, 1975, the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, a legendary 729-foot Great Lakes ore carrier known as the “Mighty Fitz,” tragically sank in a violent storm on Lake Superior, claiming the lives of all 29 crew members in one of the most infamous maritime disasters in American history. Carrying over 26,000 tons of taconite pellets from Superior, Wisconsin, toward Detroit, the ship disappeared suddenly without a distress call after its final radio message to the nearby SS Arthur M. Anderson: “We are holding our own.” Official investigations pointed to massive flooding through damaged or ineffective hatch covers overwhelmed by towering waves and hurricane-force winds, though theories involving possible grounding near Six Fathom Shoal, rogue waves, or structural failure persist. Discovered in 530 feet of water in Canadian waters, the wreck lies broken into two sections with no bodies recovered, prompting significant safety reforms in Great Lakes shipping. Immortalized in Gordon Lightfoot’s haunting ballad, the tragedy endures as a powerful reminder of nature’s fury and the enduring legacy of the brave mariners who sailed the inland seas.

13 O’Clock Episode 221 LIVE: Ghosts of the Queen Mary

On this ooky spooky installment, Tom and Jenny (after about an hour of babbling about nonsense, haha) discuss one of the most famous haunted sites in the world, the former ship and current hotel known as the Queen Mary. From her early days in the 1930s as a swanky luxury liner, through the dark days of World War II, to her present situation as an attraction and paranormal hotspot permanently docked off Long Beach, California, the ship known as the Grey Ghost and the Stateliest Ship Afloat is believed to be home to between 150 and 600 ghostly inhabitants and is a popular ghost hunting destination. Pour yourself some spirits (ha!), cuddle close, and get ready for a creepily nautical nightmare on episode 221.
