13 O’Clock Episode 431: David Paulides, Missing 411, and Some Creepy National Park Disappearances

In 2012, David Paulides, a former police officer and Bigfoot enthusiast, became interested in the supposedly excessive number of mysterious disappearances in America’s national parks. Delving into some of these missing persons cases, he compiled several self-published books and crowdfunded documentaries under the Missing 411 moniker, in which he seemed to imply that the National Park Service and other agencies were sometimes engaging in cover-ups about the disappearances and that possibly supernatural causes­—such as skinwalkers, Sasquatches, or interdimensional beings­—might be at play. On this episode of 13 O’Clock, Tom and Jenny talk about the Missing 411 conspiracy, discuss a few of the weirder cases he highlighted, and speculate on whether there is actually anything to his theories about an unusually high number of inexplicable disappearances and deaths.

13 O’Clock Episode 426: The Strange Disappearance of Patti Adkins (Plus Bonus Sidetracks)

Patti Adkins, a 29-year-old mother from Marysville, Ohio, mysteriously disappeared on June 29, 2001, after leaving her workplace, the Honda automotive plant. She had told family and friends that she was going on a week-long vacation with a co-worker she had been secretly dating for several years. However, she was never seen again. Investigators learned that this co-worker, who was married, denied any romantic involvement and claimed he had no plans with Patti. Despite thorough investigations, including searches of his vehicle and property, no substantial evidence was found to implicate him or locate Patti. Her body has never been found, and the case remains unsolved, casting a lingering shadow of mystery and heartbreak over her loved ones.

We also cover the 2009 disappearance and possible murder of 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel; the bizarre 2013 vanishing of Connecticut family man Robert Hoagland; and finally, the utterly strange account of German vacationer Lars Mittank, who went missing after suffering a possible psychotic break while partying with friends in Bulgaria. One of our favorite TV shows of the 80s and 90s was Unsolved Mysteries, particularly during the Robert Stack era. As the show was such a beloved touchstone for us and inspired us to make the 13 O’Clock Podcast the crazy combination of paranormal, true crime, and weird history stories that it is, we thought it only fitting to discuss this cultural icon on our own little show. On this tangent-filled and far-reaching episode, we get into a brief history of Unsolved Mysteries, some fun facts about the show, and a few of our favorite featured cases, including some that the show helped solve. We also weave in digressions about D.B. Cooper, Son of Sam, the Beale ciphers, the inaccuracy of witness testimony, and much, much more!
