13 O’Clock Episode 104 – The Black Dahlia

It’s true crime time again on this grisly installment of 13 O’Clock, and this go-around, we’re tackling what is probably the best known unsolved murder case in American history: the horrifying slaying of the Black Dahlia. Back in 1947, dark-haired beauty Elizabeth Short was found sliced in half and drained of blood in an undeveloped Los Angeles neighborhood. Who committed such a vicious crime, and why? Theories and rumors have abounded in the more than seven decades since the murder occurred, and public fascination with the case shows no sign of abating. So listen in to our take on the notorious crime, along with an opening news story about a Florida cold case from 1994 — the brutal murder of Amy Gellert — and many, MANY of our famous digressions. Settle in for the long, blood-drenched saga of episode 104.

13 O’Clock Episode 102 – The Snowtown Murders

On today’s soul-killing installment, we’re tackling what is probably one of the most notorious series of slayings in recent Australian history: the so-called Snowtown Murders, also known as the Bodies in Barrels murders. This horrific convulsion of torture and murder from the 1990s was committed by a ringleader named John Bunting and his extended group of henchmen, who targeted people they perceived as gay or “pedophiles,” and the crimes have been the subject of numerous documentaries in Australia, as well as a 2011 feature film. And if that topic wasn’t depressing enough, we’re also gonna talk about the ongoing case of the Croydon Cat Killer in the UK on our news segment, which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like: some chode (or chodes) who gets his jollies from slaughtering kitty cats and bunnies. Keep the liquor handy and buckle in for a rough ride on episode 102.

13 O’Clock Episode 100 – True Crime Variety Special with Guests, Video, Kitties, and More!

Yes, we’ve reached an important milestone, folks: it’s 13 O’Clock’s big, bad ONE-HUNDREDTH episode! For months, we threw around different ideas about what to do for it, and in the end, we just decided to give our listeners more of what they seem to love most about the show: drunken rambling and horrific true crime stories. Plus, for those tuning in on YouTube, you will get to see videos of us in all our glory, plus little snippets of video of our kitties, and a 360 of our little office/studio, where the magic happens (the audio version doesn’t have video, obviously, but is still awesome and fun, so don’t feel left out)!

We also have special guests on the show: Shana, Eric, and zombie baby Demonika of BattleGlitta, who drank and laughed along with us as we delved into twenty of the most eerie and unpleasant true crime stories I could find. Creepiest disappearances! Horrible massacres of entire families! IT’S A MADHOUSE! Plus it’s like three hours long, so y’know…everyone take a potty break and gather all the snacks you’ll need before you settle in for the very long, vaguely incoherent, irreverent, and half-drunk installment of 13 O’Clock that IS episode 100. Hope you guys enjoy…we couldn’t do it without you! 🙂

13 O’Clock Episode 99 – Serial Killer Israel Keyes

On another of our true crime installments of 13 O’Clock, Tom and Jenny are examining the twisted psyche of serial killer, rapist, and bank robber Israel Keyes, a chillingly detached murderer who lived a double life and killed at least three people, and probably more than eight. His meticulous planning of his crimes, and the fact that he would often fly across the country in order to target individuals at random, meant that it took a long time to catch him, and once he was captured, he committed suicide, taking his secrets to the grave. Tune in to this oft-requested topic, a cross-country spree of serial murder on episode 99.

13 O’Clock Episode 97 – The Double Initial Murders / Alphabet Killer

In the early 1970s, in Rochester, New York, three little girls were raped and murdered by a suspected serial killer who might have targeted them specifically because their first and last names started with the same letter. Years later, in Los Angeles, California, four young women with double initials also turned up dead; this killer was caught, but strangely, it didn’t seem to be the same man responsible for the earlier murders. Who was the Rochester Alphabet Killer, and did he have any relationship with Los Angeles Alphabet Killer Joseph Naso? All this, plus an update on the Golden State Killer being cleared of a 1978 double murder in Simi Valley. It’s a twisting tale of alphabetical terror on episode 97 of 13 O’Clock.

13 O’Clock Episode 96 – Robert Stack Attack! A Wide-Ranging Tribute to Unsolved Mysteries

One of our favorite TV shows of the 80s and 90s was Unsolved Mysteries, particularly during the Robert Stack era. As the show was such a beloved touchstone for us and inspired us to make the 13 O’Clock Podcast the crazy combination of paranormal, true crime, and weird history stories that it is, we thought it only fitting to discuss this cultural icon on our own little show. On this tangent-filled and far-reaching episode, we get into a brief history of Unsolved Mysteries, some fun facts about the show, and a few of our favorite featured cases, including some that the show helped solve. We also weave in digressions about D.B. Cooper, Son of Sam, the Beale ciphers, the inaccuracy of witness testimony, and much, much more! All this, plus some awesome listener-contributed ghost stories in our news segment! So sit back and listen to this homage to a childhood favorite, and you may be able to help solve the mystery presented on episode 96.

13 O’Clock Episode 95 – The Phantom Killer of Texarkana

On this creepy, true crime inspired installment, Tom and Jenny are discussing one of the most infamous uncaught serial killer cases in American history: the so-called Texarkana Moonlight Murders, perpetrated by a hooded assailant only known as the Phantom Killer. The four-month reign of terror was the subject of a well-known cult film of the 70s called The Town That Dreaded Sundown (which was remade in 2014), but the true story is far more chilling. Tune in as we break down the case, and also listen in on our news segment, on which we discuss an article about the reasons for the recent decline in serial killers. Put away your trombones and stay off those lovers’ lanes as you take in the murderous rampage that is episode 95.

13 O’Clock Episode 93 – The Family Murders

We’re going back to Australian true crime for episode 93, and boy, this one’s a doozy. Remember when we talked about the Wanda Beach murders and the disappearance of the Beaumont children back on episode 77? We kinda mentioned today’s topic on that show, because there were some suspects in common, but here’s the complete, horrible story of the so-called “Family Murders,” which took place in Adelaide, South Australia in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Seems there was an alleged cabal of wealthy, prominent older men in the city who would cruise around, pick up teenage boys, and do unspeakable things to them before dumping them by the side of the road. This one’s kinda rough, so y’know, have some cute kitten videos on standby for afterward. Also, we’re covering a recent news story whereby a suspect in a Washington State double murder case from 1987 has been identified using the same genealogy technique used to capture the Golden State Killer. It’s true crime from Down Under and Up Over (I guess…?) on a grim and gruesome episode 93.

13 O’Clock Episode 91 – The Long Island Serial Killer

It’s a serial killer extravaganza on this horrific installment! Tom and Jenny are looking into a suspected and infamous serial killer case that is still ongoing. In December of 2010, while looking for a missing person in Long Island, New York, police stumbled across four bodies in burlap sacks, and a few months later, discovered six more nearby. The unknown perpetrator known as the Long Island Serial Killer, the Gilgo Beach Killer, or the Craigslist Ripper is thought to be responsible for between ten to sixteen murders in and around Long Island between the years of 1996 to 2010, and may still be operating today. Tune in as we discuss what is known about the case so far, and also have a listen to our news segment, in which we not only give the latest updates on recently apprehended Golden State Killer suspect Joseph DeAngelo, but also talk a little bit about recently deceased British serial killer Dennis Nilsen, as well as have a brief discussion about the weirdly specific jobs that serial killers seem attracted to. Lock your doors and windows as 13 O’Clock tries to catch a killer on episode 91.

13 O’Clock Episode 89 – Original Night Stalker / Golden State Killer Captured! Update Show

Fans of the show may remember that way back on Episode 8, we talked about the serial killer / rapist known as the Original Night Stalker (aka the Golden State Killer). Well, lo and behold, just as we were preparing a topic for this week’s show, THE ORIGINAL NIGHT STALKER GOT CAUGHT!!! Yes, the scumbag’s name is Joseph DeAngelo and he is currently in custody, so far charged with eight counts of murder in the horrific crime spree that terrorized California from 1976 through 1986. To celebrate the capture of this long-sought-after criminal, 13 O’Clock is doing an update and revisit of the case, since our first episode about the rapist and murderer caused so much interest. Listen in as we break down what we know about the man behind the monster, and discuss what we got right (and wrong) on our earlier show! It’s a super-topical, special EAR-ONS edition of 13 O’Clock, and it’s episode 89.
