13 O’Clock Episode 401: Edward Paisnel, The Beast of Jersey

Edward Paisnel, infamously known as the Beast of Jersey, was a notorious sex offender who terrorized the island of Jersey in the 1960s. A seemingly normal family man by day, Paisnel would often don a terrifying mask and sneak into homes at night, targeting women and children, and subjecting them to unspeakable acts of violence. His reign of terror instilled fear in the community, and it wasn’t until his eventual capture in 1971 that the extent of his depravity was fully revealed. Paisnel was convicted of multiple counts of assault and rape, leaving behind a legacy of trauma that scarred the island for years to come. Join Tom and Jenny on a disturbing trek into the heart of darkness on yet another soul-crushing crime episode.

13 O’Clock Episode 398: Randall Woodfield, The I-5 Killer

Between October of 1980 and February of 1981, a perpetrator known as the I-5 Bandit or the I-5 Killer terrorized Oregon, Washington, and California, raping and murdering women and girls in a frenzied spree of violence. The culprit was apprehended in March of 1981 and turned out to be a man by the name of Randall Woodfield, a former football player from an upper-middle-class family who was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 1974 (but never played for them professionally). Though Woodfield was ultimately convicted of only one murder, he is suspected to have committed between 25 and 44, and he is currently serving a life sentence plus 165 years. Join Tom and Jenny as we discuss the murderous career of this cold-blooded killer on a horrific episode 398.

13 O’Clock Episode 394: Harry Edward Greenwell – The Days Inn Killer, aka The I-65 Killer

Between 1987 and 1991 in the American Midwest, an unknown individual was prowling Interstate 65 in Indiana and Kentucky, raping and murdering at least three women in roadside motels. The perpetrator, variously known as The Days Inn Killer or the I-65 Killer, remained at large for years, and it wasn’t even until 2008 that authorities linked the crimes and realized they were dealing with a serial killer. Sadly, by the time he was identified via DNA as Kentucky railroad worker Harry Edward Greenwell, the monster was already dead, having succumbed to cancer in 2013 while living a normal, quiet life in Iowa. Join Tom and Jenny as they discuss another of America’s “forgotten” serial killers on the road trip nightmare known as Episode 394.

13 O’Clock Episode 393: The Abduction and Murder of Adam Walsh

In 1981, six-year-old Adam Walsh went to a Sears store with his mother in a mall in Hollywood, Florida. His mother left him at an Atari kiosk with several older boys to play games, but when she returned a few minutes later, all the boys, including Adam, were gone. About two weeks later, Adam’s severed head was found floating in a canal more than a hundred miles from where he had been abducted. The case was closed in 2008 after authorities became satisfied that drifter Ottis Toole, an associate of Henry Lee Lucas, had killed the child, but some experts aren’t so sure. The high-profile kidnapping and murder caused a public panic about “stranger danger,” leading not only to several new laws and the formation of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children but also to the long activist career of Adam’s father John Walsh, who went on to host America’s Most Wanted for decades, as well as several other similar programs. Join Tom and Jenny on a journey into one of the most infamous and heartbreaking abduction cases in American history on a tragic episode 393.

13 O’Clock Episode 392: Famous Con Man Frank Abagnale Jr.

In 2002, Steven Spielberg released a film called Catch Me If You Can, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as a con man being pursued by Tom Hanks’s dogged FBI agent. The movie was loosely based on a 1980 autobiography of the same name by convicted fraudster Frank Abagnale Jr., who claimed all sorts of outrageous criminal exploits. For example, beginning in the 1960s, Abagnale supposedly impersonated an airline pilot, a doctor, and a lawyer, all the while passing bad checks reportedly totaling over two million dollars. After inevitably getting caught, Abagnale decided to go straight and use his personal experience to help authorities combat fraud. In later years, however, it’s come to light that many of the claims Abagnale made in his autobiography may be wildly exaggerated or outright fabrications, so is it possible the con man is still conning the public after supposedly changing his ways? Join Tom and Jenny on this roller coaster ride of graft and chicanery on a duplicitous episode 392.

13 O’Clock Episode 390: Adolfo Constanzo and the Narco-Satanists

Serial killer and cult leader Adolfo Constanzo, between 1986 and 1989, led the drug-trafficking and occult sacrifice gang that came to be known as either the Matamoros Cult or the Narco-Satanists. Along with his companion and self-professed witch Sara Aldrete, the cult was responsible for the torture and murder of at least fifteen people, and possibly dozens more. Their most infamous crime was the horrifying torture and murder of American pre-med student Mark Kilroy, who was abducted while in Mexico for spring break. Only one week after the deadly terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, letters began arriving at various news media offices and the offices of a couple of US Senators. Inside these letters were cryptic messages as well as anthrax spores, which killed five people and infected at least twenty-two. Although Middle Eastern terrorists were initially suspected, the FBI would eventually point the finger of blame at an American biodefense scientist, Bruce Edwards Ivins, who committed suicide in 2008. At first, police suspected a robbery gone wrong, but as the investigation continued, authorities began to suspect that the killer or killers might have been someone much closer to home. Jeffrey Epstein, wealthy financier and convicted sex offender, moved in the most elite social circles and was eventually found to have procured women and underage girls to offer to his powerful friends and colleagues. His list of contacts contains several names that most anyone would recognize, including a few former presidents and some members of the British royal family. In 2019, Epstein allegedly committed suicide in prison, but many believe he was actually murdered. 13 O’Clock Episode 381: Oscar Slater, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and the Murder of Marion Gilchrist

In December of 1908, an eighty-three-year-old woman named Marion Gilchrist was beaten to death in her home in Glasgow, Scotland, the victim of an apparent robbery gone wrong. Shortly afterward, police collared a man named Oscar Slater for the crime, even though there was clear evidence that he was not the killer. Despite this, Slater was eventually convicted and sentenced to hang, though several influential people, including Sherlock Holmes creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, rallied to his defense. On this old-time crime installment of 13 O’Clock, Tom and Jenny dive into this fascinating case of murder and wrongful conviction, one of the most appalling incidences of miscarriages of justice in Scottish legal history.
