It’s been a while since we’ve done one of our reviews of A Haunting episodes, so we decided to go back to the beginning and delve into the case behind one of the pilot episodes, “A Haunting in Georgia” (which was also the basis for the horror movie A Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia). The Wyrick family begin to experience paranormal activity in their new home in Ellerslie, Georgia, mostly centering around their daughter Heidi seeing a friendly old man in the backyard who she called Mr. Gordy, as well as another man with blood on his shirt that she called Con. Later on, things got a bit more sinister with the arrival of a creepy hooded figure who seemed to wish the family harm. On this episode, Tom and Jenny talk about the episode of A Haunting as well as the witness accounts of the real case, and how it was (poorly) adapted to the big screen. Start your October off right with the ghostly, haunted 59th installment of 13 O’Clock.

In January of 1935, a young man checked into a hotel in Kansas City under the pseudonym Roland T. Owen, with only a hairbrush, a comb, and a tube of toothpaste to his name. A couple of days later, he was found naked, bound and obviously tortured in his blood-splashed room. Who was this murdered man with the fake name? Why was he constantly sitting in the dark? Who was the mysterious “Don” he talked to on the phone? Why was he running down the street clad only in pants and an undershirt? Who anonymously paid for his funeral and a bouquet of roses? Who sent cryptic typed letters to his mother months after his death?
Everyone loves an unsolved murder, and the mystery of room 1046 is one of the eeriest unsolved crimes in American history. On this episode, Tom and Jenny give a timeline of the bizarre events leading up to the man’s death, and speculate as to what might have befallen the doomed occupant of the Hotel President.

Most people have heard of Richard Ramirez, the infamous serial killer known as the Night Stalker. But what many people don’t know is that a decade before Ramirez commenced his reign of terror, a much more brutal and prolific serial killer and rapist stalked the upper-middle-class neighborhoods of California, from Sacramento to Irvine. This man, known alternately as the East Area Rapist, the Golden State Killer, the Diamond Knot Killer, or The Original Night Stalker, has never been apprehended, and may still be on the loose. On this episode, Tom and Jenny discuss his horrific crimes and speculate as to why he was never caught. 2016, in fact, marks the 40th anniversary of the Original Night Stalker’s first known crime, and the FBI have redoubled their efforts to track the guy down, offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to his capture and conviction.
