From a lonely and “melancholy” childhood, to ascension to the throne at just 18 years old, to her celebrated marriage to her beloved Albert, Victoria was an interesting figure: intelligent and obstinate, honest and forthright, but in many ways removed from the seismic cultural changes happening around her, even while paradoxically helping to bring them about.
