13 O’Clock Episode 163 – Reel Life Horrors: True Stories Behind Horror Movies

To celebrate the beginning of October, Tom and Jenny are doing a super-sized, super-fun variety-style show, centered around the theme of “true cases that inspired horror movies.” First up, we’ll be talking about suspected serial killer Andre Rand and the urban legend of Cropsey (basis for the 1981 slasher flick The Burning); then we’ll tackle the bizarre series of mysterious deaths of Laotian refugees that served as the inspiration for A Nightmare on Elm Street; then we’ll discuss the infamous Beast of Gevaudan, the story behind Brotherhood of the Wolf; then we’ll talk about the Scottish cannibal clan of Sawney Bean, the tale behind The Hills Have Eyes; and lastly, we’ll delve into the terrifying 2014 news story about The Watcher in New Jersey, which inspired a Lifetime movie as well as an upcoming Netflix original. Brew up some pumpkin spice coffee and get ready for a smorgasbord of creepy October weirdness on a three-hour (!) episode 163!

Some of you may remember my short story collection The Associated Villainies, which I published way back in 2011. Well, I have recently published a second edition, complete with four extra stories, a new cover design, tweaks and corrections to the stories, and a cooler interior layout. The print and ebook versions are available now, and an audio book version will be coming in a few weeks’ time.
