On this titillating installment of 13 O’Clock, Tom and Jenny are discussing one of the most notorious writers (and serial rapists) in all of literary history, the infamous aristocrat Marquis de Sade. Born into privilege and possessed of a sociopathically voracious sexual appetite, the Marquis assaulted his way through 18th-century France, making plenty of enemies and spending decades of his life imprisoned, but also becoming immortalized due to his unbelievably explicit writings, such as The 120 Days of Sodom and Justine, and the fact that his name became the basis for our word “sadism.” Hide the whips and chains and check your chocolates for Spanish fly, it’s about to get rough on episode 185.

This seemingly friendly and community-minded individual flew under the radar for years, but was eventually found to have raped and murdered at least 33 young men and boys, burying most of them in the crawlspace beneath his house.
