13 O’Clock Episode 153 – The Blackout Ripper and the Brownout Strangler

On this darkened, wartime installment, Tom and Jenny are delving into two horrific cases of serial killers who took advantage of the low-light conditions and general chaos during World War II to ply their grisly trade. On the first half, we discuss England’s Gordon Cummins, better known as The Blackout Ripper, who prowled the streets of London during one terrifying week in 1942, slaughtering and mutilating women left and right. On the second half, we go into the case of Eddie Leonski, The Brownout Strangler, an American serviceman stationed in Melbourne, Australia who murdered several women under similar conditions in the same year. Hunker down in your air raid shelter and turn your lights on full blast, it’s time for the historical horrors of episode 153.

13 O’Clock Matinee Episode 41: Rim of the World, I Am Mother, The Perfection

This week, Tom and Jenny expanded their movie review possibilities from the theater to direct-to-VOD flicks from 2019. To that end, we reviewed three new Netflix films: the fun, scifi throwback adventure Rim of the World; the more serious and harrowing scifi thriller I Am Mother; and the bizarre, twist-filled horror thriller The Perfection.

13 O’Clock Episode 152 – Al Capone and the Chicago Outfit

On this installment, Tom and Jenny are going back to 1920s gangland, specifically talking about the Chicago Outfit and its direction under the ruthless leadership of Al Capone, its relationship to Prohibition, the infamous St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, and lots of other mobster-related topics. Slip into your cement shoes and watch out for a horse head in your bed…it’s time for episode 152.

13 O’Clock Matinee Episode 40: Stuber and Crawl

We only caught two flicks this week again, but they were both pretty decent! The first was the hilarious and violent action/buddy comedy Stuber; while the second was the Florida creature-feature flick Crawl, featuring scary alligators.

13 O’Clock Movie Retrospective: Christine

On today’s b-b-bad to the bone review, we’re revisiting one of Jenny’s favorite 80s horror flicks, as well as one of her favorite Stephen King adaptations, 1983’s Christine, directed by the one and only John Carpenter.

13 O’Clock Episode 151 – Murder in Korea: The Hwaseong Serial Killer and the Frog Boys

On this installment of the 13 O’Clock Podcast, Tom and Jenny are discussing two lesser-known crimes from South Korea. The first is the unsolved case of the Hwaseong Serial Murders, in which a series of nine (or possibly ten) women and girls were raped and murdered in a rural town. Then there’s the weird case of the Frog Boys, five kids who went off to play one day and vanished, only to be found murdered eleven years later. Crank up the K-pop and pile on the kimchi for this Asian array of macabre murders on episode 151.

13 O’Clock Matinee Episode 39: Spider-Man: Far From Home & Midsommar

We only managed two flicks on this week’s installment of the Matinee, but hey, movies! The first was the latest Marvel offering, the European-Vacation-with-superheroes romp Spider-Man: Far From Home, while the second was Ari Aster’s sophomore folk horror freakout, the wonderfully weird, Wicker-Man-inspired Midsommar.
