It’s the special meta 13th episode of 13 O’Clock! To celebrate the theme, Tom and Jenny decided to have a fun little romp through creepy superstitions and omens of death throughout the ages. Aside from the obvious warnings about black cats, broken mirrors, and not breathing around cemeteries, you will also learn why it’s always prudent to put coins on the eyes of a corpse! Why you should start writing out your will if you see a groundhog chilling on your doorstep! Why you should always bury a murder victim’s liver separate from the rest of the body (trust me, this won’t make any more sense after you listen to the show)! Why Victorians were the most morbid fuckers and the snappiest dressers in recorded history!

Along the way, be entertained by amusing digressions about swaggering cockroaches, Mafia-affiliated Sandhill cranes, Tom’s recently shorn dome, and the joys of frying chicken in old motor oil.

13 O’Clock Episode 12 – The Enfield Poltergeist

On the even dozenth episode of 13 O’Clock, Tom and Jenny have an in-depth and “spirited” (heh) discussion about what is probably the best-known poltergeist case of modern times, that of the Enfield Poltergeist from 1977.

The story of the Hodgson family and their bizarre encounter with the paranormal (or the shameless hoaxing by Janet Hodgson, depending on your perspective) has been the subject of numerous documentaries, a kick-ass book called This House Is Haunted by Guy Lyon Playfair, a British miniseries called The Enfield Haunting, and the recent Hollywood horror film The Conjuring 2.

Your favorite podcasters separate the wheat from the chaff, the fact from the fiction, and along the way give a shout-out to late parapsychologist Maurice Grosse, who spent over a year with the family investigating the disturbances, and kinda throw some shade on demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren, who said they were involved in the case but really only showed up uninvited for like five minutes.

Flying toys! Flipping furniture! Floating children! A little girl saying all kinds of creepy shit in an old man’s voice! It’s all here on this entertaining exploration of the Enfield Poltergeist.

Happy Saturday, fiends! This is just a short message to inform you that our 13 O’Clock podcast (at least the audio version) will be moving to a new network starting with the very next episode on November 8th (which will be about the Enfield poltergeist, by the way)! You will now be able to hear us on our home page at the Project Entertainment Network, run by the awesome horror writer and all-around cool guy Armand Rosamilia. The name of Jack the Ripper is known the world over, but what is less well known is that Victorian-era London was a general cesspit of crime and degeneracy, and that Jack the Ripper wasn’t even the only serial killer prowling the cobblestoned and gaslighted streets. On this episode, Tom and Jenny discuss two of the cruelest and most insidious: George Chapman and Dr. Thomas Neill Cream, both avid poisoners of women, and both, incidentally, suspects in the Jack the Ripper case.

Most people have heard of Richard Ramirez, the infamous serial killer known as the Night Stalker. But what many people don’t know is that a decade before Ramirez commenced his reign of terror, a much more brutal and prolific serial killer and rapist stalked the upper-middle-class neighborhoods of California, from Sacramento to Irvine. This man, known alternately as the East Area Rapist, the Golden State Killer, the Diamond Knot Killer, or The Original Night Stalker, has never been apprehended, and may still be on the loose. On this episode, Tom and Jenny discuss his horrific crimes and speculate as to why he was never caught. 2016, in fact, marks the 40th anniversary of the Original Night Stalker’s first known crime, and the FBI have redoubled their efforts to track the guy down, offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to his capture and conviction.

13 O’Clock Episode 7 – The Mammoth Mountain Poltergeist

On this episode, Tom and Jenny discuss the case that started it all. Jenny was primarily a horror writer until Tom told her about a horrifying poltergeist experience he had endured in 1982, when he was thirteen years old. Objects moved in impossible ways, creepy noises like human voices came out of thin air, and an eerie presence seemed to watch him and his family at every turn, and followed them to a total of three locations. Tom gives a rundown of some of the phenomena, using current pictures of one of the locations in order to jog his memory. Tom and Jenny also discuss the poltergeist activity that rekindled at their own home more than thirty years after the original incidents. On this spooky spy-themed episode, Tom and Jenny discuss the creepy weirdness of numbers stations, plus the intensely fucked-up and mysterious unsolved murders of probable secret agents The Somerton Man (aka the Tamam Shud case) and The Isdal Woman.
