Before you take a handful of Tylenol for that headache, you might want to tune in to the latest LIVE installment of 13 O’Clock, on which Tom and Jenny discuss the infamous 1982 case that was actually the impetus for the familiar tamper-resistant packing we all take for granted today. Yep, on this episode, we’re talking about the Chicago Tylenol murders, a horrific series of killings perpetrated by some as-yet-unidentified psycho who decided to put cyanide inside random Tylenol capsules in and around Chicago drugstores. We’ll also talk about some of the copycat crimes that occurred in the wake of the appalling incident, and how the laws were forever changed afterwards. Be careful what you put in your mouth as you settle in for a paranoia-inducing episode 219.

13 O’Clock Episode 124 – The Axeman of New Orleans and the Mulatto Axe Murders

It’s our first show of the new year, and what better way to start off 2019 than with a couple of old-timey axe murder cases? On this blood-spattered installment, we’re traveling back to the early 20th century to discuss the infamous unidentified serial killer known as the Axeman of New Orleans, who murdered six people and wounded six more between the spring of 1918 and the autumn of 1919. Then, on the second half, we’re delving a little deeper to talk about a nearly-forgotten rash of axe murders that took place between November 1909 and April 1912 in Louisiana and Texas that claimed the lives of at least 35 people. This series of horrific killings, known as the Mulatto Axe Murders or the Voodoo Murders, may have been perpetrated by an eighteen-year-old girl, Clementine Barnabet, who was allegedly a member of a voodoo cult and had several accomplices to her crimes. Was she really the monster she was made out to be, or was it all media hype? Lock your doors and fire up your jazz records, it’s time to swing the blade on episode 124. Happy New Year, everybody!

13 O’Clock Episode 102 – The Snowtown Murders

On today’s soul-killing installment, we’re tackling what is probably one of the most notorious series of slayings in recent Australian history: the so-called Snowtown Murders, also known as the Bodies in Barrels murders. This horrific convulsion of torture and murder from the 1990s was committed by a ringleader named John Bunting and his extended group of henchmen, who targeted people they perceived as gay or “pedophiles,” and the crimes have been the subject of numerous documentaries in Australia, as well as a 2011 feature film. And if that topic wasn’t depressing enough, we’re also gonna talk about the ongoing case of the Croydon Cat Killer in the UK on our news segment, which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like: some chode (or chodes) who gets his jollies from slaughtering kitty cats and bunnies. Keep the liquor handy and buckle in for a rough ride on episode 102.

For months, we threw around different ideas about what to do for it, and in the end, we just decided to give our listeners more of what they seem to love most about the show: drunken rambling and horrific true crime stories. Plus, for those tuning in on YouTube, you will get to see videos of us in all our glory, plus little snippets of video of our kitties, and a 360 of our little office/studio, where the magic happens (the audio version doesn’t have video, obviously, but is still awesome and fun, so don’t feel left out)!

Returning to the true crime fold with perhaps the best known of all the infamous multiple murders in American history, this episode of 13 O’Clock sees Tom and Jenny examining the brutal slayings of the Clutter farm family in Kansas, the crime on which Truman Capote based his classic book, In Cold Blood. Besides discussing the crime itself as well as the book that was written about it, we also delve into a far less known family massacre, that of the Walkers in Florida in 1959, which may or may not have been committed by the same men who killed the Clutters. All this, plus a couple of weird news stories about the Romanian living dead, and why you should probably look at your cashews before popping them in your mouth hole. 13 O’Clock Episode 74 – Keddie and Bear Brook Murders, Plus Werewolf Killer

In 1981, four people were brutally slain in cabin 28 at the Keddie Resort in California. And in 1985 and 2000, the bodies of four unidentified females were discovered in 55-gallon drums in Allenstown, New Hampshire. On this grisly episode of 13 O’Clock, Jenny is discussing two infamous crimes: the Keddie Murders and the Bear Brook Murders, the first of which is still officially unsolved, but the second of which has had some interesting developments in the past two years. On the News segment, she’ll also be talking about Russia’s infamous “Werewolf” serial killer, who has recently gone on trial again for confessing to many, many more murders than it was originally thought he committed (which was already a lot). 13 O’Clock Episode 45 – Villisca and the Unsolved Axe Murders of the 1910s

The horrifying massacre that took place in Villisca, Iowa in 1912 is among the creepiest mass murders in American history. Eight people — a couple with four children and two young girls who were staying the night — were brutally slaughtered with an axe while they slept, for seemingly no reason whatsoever. The crime was never solved, and what’s worse, that dreadful slaying might not have been the only one. Some researchers point out that there was a disturbing trend of gruesome axe murders going on in the Midwest from the period of 1911 through 1914, and it’s possible that some of these crimes were perpetrated by the same person. On this episode of 13 O’Clock, Tom and Jenny return to the most terrifying corners of the true crime genre to take a look at the infamous Villisca Axe Murders, as well as the disturbing series of similar crimes that terrorized the American heartland in the early twentieth century.
