13 O’Clock Episode 97 – The Double Initial Murders / Alphabet Killer

In the early 1970s, in Rochester, New York, three little girls were raped and murdered by a suspected serial killer who might have targeted them specifically because their first and last names started with the same letter. Years later, in Los Angeles, California, four young women with double initials also turned up dead; this killer was caught, but strangely, it didn’t seem to be the same man responsible for the earlier murders. Who was the Rochester Alphabet Killer, and did he have any relationship with Los Angeles Alphabet Killer Joseph Naso? All this, plus an update on the Golden State Killer being cleared of a 1978 double murder in Simi Valley. It’s a twisting tale of alphabetical terror on episode 97 of 13 O’Clock.

13 O’Clock Episode 96 – Robert Stack Attack! A Wide-Ranging Tribute to Unsolved Mysteries

One of our favorite TV shows of the 80s and 90s was Unsolved Mysteries, particularly during the Robert Stack era. As the show was such a beloved touchstone for us and inspired us to make the 13 O’Clock Podcast the crazy combination of paranormal, true crime, and weird history stories that it is, we thought it only fitting to discuss this cultural icon on our own little show. On this tangent-filled and far-reaching episode, we get into a brief history of Unsolved Mysteries, some fun facts about the show, and a few of our favorite featured cases, including some that the show helped solve. We also weave in digressions about D.B. Cooper, Son of Sam, the Beale ciphers, the inaccuracy of witness testimony, and much, much more! All this, plus some awesome listener-contributed ghost stories in our news segment! So sit back and listen to this homage to a childhood favorite, and you may be able to help solve the mystery presented on episode 96.

13 O’Clock Episode 95 – The Phantom Killer of Texarkana

On this creepy, true crime inspired installment, Tom and Jenny are discussing one of the most infamous uncaught serial killer cases in American history: the so-called Texarkana Moonlight Murders, perpetrated by a hooded assailant only known as the Phantom Killer. The four-month reign of terror was the subject of a well-known cult film of the 70s called The Town That Dreaded Sundown (which was remade in 2014), but the true story is far more chilling. Tune in as we break down the case, and also listen in on our news segment, on which we discuss an article about the reasons for the recent decline in serial killers. Put away your trombones and stay off those lovers’ lanes as you take in the murderous rampage that is episode 95.

13 O’Clock Episode 91 – The Long Island Serial Killer

It’s a serial killer extravaganza on this horrific installment! Tom and Jenny are looking into a suspected and infamous serial killer case that is still ongoing. In December of 2010, while looking for a missing person in Long Island, New York, police stumbled across four bodies in burlap sacks, and a few months later, discovered six more nearby. The unknown perpetrator known as the Long Island Serial Killer, the Gilgo Beach Killer, or the Craigslist Ripper is thought to be responsible for between ten to sixteen murders in and around Long Island between the years of 1996 to 2010, and may still be operating today. Tune in as we discuss what is known about the case so far, and also have a listen to our news segment, in which we not only give the latest updates on recently apprehended Golden State Killer suspect Joseph DeAngelo, but also talk a little bit about recently deceased British serial killer Dennis Nilsen, as well as have a brief discussion about the weirdly specific jobs that serial killers seem attracted to. Lock your doors and windows as 13 O’Clock tries to catch a killer on episode 91.

13 O’Clock Episode 89 – Original Night Stalker / Golden State Killer Captured! Update Show

Fans of the show may remember that way back on Episode 8, we talked about the serial killer / rapist known as the Original Night Stalker (aka the Golden State Killer). Well, lo and behold, just as we were preparing a topic for this week’s show, THE ORIGINAL NIGHT STALKER GOT CAUGHT!!! Yes, the scumbag’s name is Joseph DeAngelo and he is currently in custody, so far charged with eight counts of murder in the horrific crime spree that terrorized California from 1976 through 1986. To celebrate the capture of this long-sought-after criminal, 13 O’Clock is doing an update and revisit of the case, since our first episode about the rapist and murderer caused so much interest. Listen in as we break down what we know about the man behind the monster, and discuss what we got right (and wrong) on our earlier show! It’s a super-topical, special EAR-ONS edition of 13 O’Clock, and it’s episode 89.

13 O’Clock Episode 88 – British Serial Killers Jack the Stripper and Bible John

NOTE: We’re all about the digressions again this episode, so if you just want the serial killer stuff, skip ahead to about twenty minutes in. I’m telling you right here, so don’t complain, hahaha.

It’s true crime time again on this installment of 13 O’Clock, and this go-around we’re discussing two of Britain’s most infamous serial killers who were never caught. First up is the elusive Jack the Stripper, responsible for several murders of prostitutes in London spanning the years from 1959 to 1965. Then we’ll be talking about the mysterious Bible John, who murdered at least three women in Glasgow in 1968 and 1969 after meeting them at one particular dance hall, but who may be tied in to one of Scotland’s most prolific serial killers. All this, plus some recent news stories about exploding hams, getting tasered for Jesus, and attic-dwelling ex-boyfriends. Get ready to investigate with Tom and Jenny on a gore-soaked episode 88.

13 O’Clock Episode 83 – Flannan Isles Lighthouse and the Death of Elisa Lam

We’re talking about two creepy unsolved mysteries on today’s long, slightly drunken, tangent-filled installment! First up (well, about eighteen minutes into the show, haha), we discuss the infamous disappearance of three lighthouse keepers from Flannan Isles Lighthouse in the Outer Hebrides in 1900. Were they swept away by a freak wave, did some foul play befall them, or were they spirited away by ghosts or sea monsters? On our second segment, we talk about the tragic events of early 2013, when a young woman named Elisa Lam went missing from her LA hotel, and worries about her fate mounted after some eerie elevator footage showed her behaving in a very strange fashion. Days later, her body was found in a large water tank on the hotel’s roof. Was she the victim of murder, suicide, or a tragic accident? Or was there some other even more sinister reason for her bizarre death? All this, plus a fun news story about people’s Amazon Alexas seemingly becoming possessed by dark forces, and digressions about the Mammoth Mountain poltergeist, sexbots, the universal Krusselsphere, why you should never go in the ocean for any reason, and much more! Dive into the murky and mysterious waters of the unknown with Tom and Jenny, on episode 83 of 13 O’Clock.

13 O’Clock Episode 82 – Serial Killer Herb Baumeister and the Haunting of Fox Hollow Farm

In 2006, Rob and Vicki Graves bought a beautiful restored mansion sitting on 18 acres, known as Fox Hollow Farm. The price was right, and the couple couldn’t believe their luck. But then, paranormal activity allegedly began to occur: They would hear unexplained knocking, feel presences, and see disturbing apparitions around the property. If Fox Hollow Farm is indeed haunted, as its current residents claim, then there is a very good reason. In the 1990s, the sprawling estate was home to Herb Baumeister, an Indiana businessman who is suspected of murdering more than twenty men and burying some of their remains on the farm. Tune in to this paranormal and true crime story all rolled into one, plus learn about a shitbag Arkasas judge who REALLY abused his bench on our news segment. Ghosts, serial murder, double lives, and predatory authority figures…all this and more on a super-sized episode 82 of 13 O’Clock.

Instead we’ve decided to delve into the very darkest side of love and obsession, the side that includes rape, torture, murder, and Tom’s “favorite” topic, necrophilia. We’re discussing four sets of notorious killer couples whose twisted relationships left scores of dead in their wake. All this, plus a recent news story about a weirdo German couple with serial killer aspirations fueled by true crime TV shows. 13 O’Clock Episode 77 – Wanda Beach Murders and the Beaumont Children, Plus Florida Man Strikes Again

It’s another true crime double feature on 13 O’Clock, and we’re featuring two infamous crimes from 1960s Australia. First up, the horrific slayings of Marianne Schmidt and Christine Sharrock on Wanda Beach in 1965, and then the mysterious disappearance and probable murder of the Beaumont children from 1966. Before that, our news segment focuses on a typical “Florida Man” crime, about a man who was into child porn and then got into even bigger trouble trying to hire a hit man. It’s a special kind of stupid, trust me. So put on your deerstalker hats and get ready to investigate some unsolved crimes with Tom and Jenny on a bloody and tragic episode 77.
